This will be the first oval track event of the year for Tremblay – Martin Roy is focused on Rookie of the Year title

2012_08_04_06872012-08-18-1215After a three week break the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series returns to action this weekend at Barrie Speedway a very challenging 1/3 mile oval about an hour north of Toronto, ON. Rookie of the year point’s leader Martin Roy pilots the #90 Batteries Expert/Veloce/Gamache Dodge and teammate Isabelle Tremblay in the #07 Frank Lyman Design Dodge will both participate in the 300 lap race taking place this Saturday night.

This will be the first oval track event of the year for Tremblay who has competed previously on four road courses. “I’m excited to race on the oval for the first time this year” said Tremblay. “I had an 11th place finish last year and this will be a good opportunity for a strong result” she added.

Meanwhile Martin Roy is focused on one prize and that is the Rookie of the Year title for the series. “Barrie is a very challenging track” said Roy. “There will be plenty of bumping and pushing, you have to be aggressive to be successful but also patient because 300 laps is a long race” he stated.

Voting for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series is underway for the Most Popular Driver. Race fans can vote online once per day for their favorite driver with the results to be honoured at the NASCAR Night of Champions Awards December 8th in Charlotte, NC.

Martin Roy has decided to encourage a little ballot box stuffing for his teammate Tremblay. “My mission this year is the rookie title so I’d like all the fans who would vote for me to vote for Isabelle instead. She has done so much for the team, generated interest from the fans and sponsors for the series I think it would be great if both of us could be winners” he explained.

Action at Barrie Speedway begins with afternoon practice and qualifying and the green flag for the 300 lap feature is at 8PM.

Up And Down Weekend For Isabelle Tremblay & Martin Roy

August 18, 2012. It was a special feeling for Martin Roy driver of the #90 Batteries Expert/Veloce/Gamache Truck Centre Dodge and teammate Isabelle Tremblay pilot of the #07 Frank Lyman Design Dodge as they began weekend competition for round nine of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series. With the event taking place on the famed Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, plenty of supporters were on hand to cheer on both competitors.

Both Martin and Isabelle battled through some mechanical issues during practice though both were confident prior to the qualifying session for the race. “There were some brake and suspension adjustments we had to make for the #90 car” said Martin Roy. “It was better in qualifying and we managed a 10th starting spot” he added.

“The team also made the decision to change transmission for my #07 car” explained Tremblay.

Unfortunately when Tremblay took to the track for qualifying in her #07 Frank Lyman Design Dodge fluid was leaking from the transmission. She quickly returned to pit lane for repairs, however NASCAR officials would not allow her to return to the track and she was unable to post a qualifying time. Tremblay was not granted a provisional starting position and thus forced to miss the race.

“I was incredibly disappointed in the decision when told by NASCAR” said Tremblay. “This team has been getting stronger all season and our fans have been so wonderful and amazing. This race was the highlight of the season for our fans and for Frank Lyman Designs. While I’m very upset about what took place the support and love we’ve felt from everyone here at the track and all of our appearances this week has been very heartwarming” she stated.

The 100km race began well for Martin Roy in the #90 as he hovered around the top ten. Things however would take a turn for the worse. “I was running my race, trying to be smart and have a good finish” he explained. “Then not once but twice during the race I wind up getting hit and turned around, it was very frustrating”.

Though bumped out of the battle a couple of times, Roy persevered. He would hustle his #90 as best he could and the result was a hard fought 12th place finish. “I worked as hard as I could” said Roy. “We managed to get back up close to the top ten. I definitely feel we had a better car than we were able to show today”.

The next race on the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series schedule is September 8th at Barrie Speedway, north of Barrie, ON.
